Newsletter Deadline
The next deadline is Sunday, March 7, 2004, no later than 12:30 P.M.

Newsletter Articles

Please leave legible contributions in the Newsletter box located outside the church office. Please include your name and a contact number should there be any questions.
Please do not write articles on little pieces of paper or contribution envelopes, the ones that don't get lost are very hard to read.

Editorial

Deadline - Definition according to Webster's Dictionary...A time limit before which something must be finished.

The Newsletter deadlines are the first and third Sunday of each month, no later than 12:30 P.M.  This includes ALL items for the Newsletter - flyers, full page inserts - EVERYTHING!  A deadline is not a suggestion, it is a deadline.  When I pick up the items for the Newsletter on the first and third Sunday, usually well after 12:30, EVERYTHING that is to be included in that Newsletter needs to be in the Newsletter box by that time.  Of course that does not include e-mailed items although the deadlines are the same for those.  The only exceptions to this are emergencies, such as deaths - not missed deadlines.

Thank you for your cooperation.  Irene

All in the Family

Ernest Wilde, an old friend of First UU died in January, at the age of 101. His wife was a member of our church many years ago.  Kathe Stevens has a new phone number.  It is 313-675-1563. Former First UU caretaker Jerry Burris says hello to those who remember him.  Jerry was at the church in the early 70's and is now living in Oklahoma.

Unitarian Universalist Service Committee

On February 15, local Unitarian Universalist Service Committee rep Cindy Hill presented the James Luther Adams award for the gift our church made to the UUSC in 2003.  We are only one of two churches in Michigan to receive this award.  It is given to churches that make a corporate donation of at least $1.00 per member to the UUSC.  This is over and above our memberships and contributions to Guest at Your Table.

We thank the following people for contributing to our James Luther Adams gift:

Al & Lencha Acker

Allison Parks

Barbara & Carter Stevenson

Bob & Mary Neale

Bonnie Wright

Dave Robinson

Gretchen Rensi

What is Love?

A group of professional people posed this question to a group of 4-8 year olds.  The answers they got were broader and deeper than anyone could have imagined.  See what you think:

“When my grandmother got arthritis, she couldn’t bend over and paint her toenails anymore so my grandfather does it for her all the time, even when his hands got arthritis too.  That’s love.” Rebecca – age 8

“Love is when you go out to eat and give somebody most of your French fries without making them give you any of theirs.” Chrissy –age 6

“Love is what makes you smile when you’re tired.” Terri – age 4

“If you want to learn to love better, you should start with a friend you hate.” Nikka – age 6

“Love is when you tell a guy you like his shirt, then he wears it every day.” Noelle – age 7

“When you love somebody, your eyelashes go up and down and little stars come out of you.” Karen – age 7

“You really shouldn’t say ‘I love you’ unless you mean it. But if you mean it, you should say it a lot. People forget.” Jessica – age 8
